Injury!

Caitlin suffered her first major injury on Sunday.  She was walking (kinda trotting actually) into our room, tripped on a backpack, and smacked face-first into the footboard of the bed.

She gashed her lip open pretty severely (inside) and had to get about five stitches in the ER.  Our tough little girl didn't fuss or cry the whole time!  She calmly opened her mouth for the doctor to examine her, let him put cotton soaked in a numbing agent in there for about five minutes, then sat through the stitches with no problem.  Everyone was very impressed.  She handled it better than I did!

Her wound is healing nicely, and there should be no permanent damage or scarring.  Yay!

Chocolate and Wine

I'm having a rough night.

There's no real reason for it, just some tension and misunderstandings that crawled under my skin and refused to leave.  I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed, worn down and tired.

Once he was able to wrap his mind around the idea that there was nothing specific to "fix", my lovely man told me "You need a bite of chocolate and a sip of wine."  Then he went and got it for me.  In a few minutes we're going to snuggle up in bed and watch Rachel Getting Married while we sip our wine.

This is just one of the many reasons I am marrying this man.

I Will Not Allow That

I almost let it happen again.

***

Harsh words, promises broken, faith destroyed.

I promised myself that when it happened, I would not let it change me, beat me down, steal my joy, make me into a person I cannot love.

I almost let exactly that happen.

But I have discovered in my 30 years of life, that I have the choice and the ability to be exactly the person I want to be.  I do not have to let others opinions, attitudes, judgments, words or anything else change that.

And I won't.

I will not allow myself to be defined by you or anyone else.

Thank you for making me stronger.

Thank you for opening my eyes - yet again - to my own potential and just how far I still get to travel.

Thank you for reminding me of what I have to give, and what I have to lose.

And now, here's a pretty picture.

Random Caitlin Tidbits

Caitlin:  "Do you like my hat?"

Me:  "I do like your hat!"

Caitlin:  "You do?  It's a hamburger hat!"

***

Caitlin:  "Mom, I'm going to eat up all your pink sick germs so you and Nana won't be sick anymore."

Me:  "Wow that's sweet Caity, but won't you get sick if you eat all those sick germs?"

Caitlin:  "Noooooooo."

A Goal for the Week, A Goal for the Month

So I've decided instead of New Year's Resolutions, I'm going to set a single, achievable goal for myself at the beginning of each month.  The goal will be something to help me work towards a more perfect physical, mental or emotional well-being.

January's is simply to eat breakfast each morning.  This is more challenging than it may seem, as I usually have to eat breakfast in my car as I'm driving to work, OR get up at 5:30 in the morning to have time to sit at the table.  So, I can either plan out some healthy, portable breakfasts, or get my tired butt out of bed earlier.

I think I'll start with the portable breakfasts.

I also am hoping to find time to set a small weekly goal - separate from my to-do list.  For example:  this week's goal is going to be to make an effort to be more kind to the people who surround me daily.  That will be a challenge today as I am miserably sick and just want to hide under the covers and/or tell everyone to go jump in a lake and leave me alone.

However.  I do love a challenge, so I'm going to be nice to the people I live with.

Do you have any small, achievable goals you could be working on?

P.S.   HI MOM!!!!
